A Social Media Superstar - An Interview with Amanda Todorovich

A Social Media Superstar - An Interview with Amanda Todorovich

When we were tasked with interviewing a leading professional in social media one of the first people that came to mind was Amanda Todorovich. She spoke at a leadership workshop that Emma Key and I both attended. Her experience as a fellow ONU Public Relations Polar Bear to becoming a well known social media professional and running the Cleveland Clinic's website was truly inspiring as an upcoming social media professional.

We began the process of asking to interview her by contacting her by email and asking when she would be available to meet with us on such short notice, as her job keeps her extremely occupied. Then we scheduled a time with her. Next, we created a list of questions that would allow us to learn more about her experience in social media and how to succeed in a career in social media.

Her career began as a marketing assistant where she continued to do outstanding work in communications and marketing roles. She shared that one of the best learning experiences she had was creating a startup. She says that it taught her that your mistakes can teach you so much more than always succeeding, which is a valuable piece of advice for many young professionals who are always trying to get everything right.

Her career really kicked off when she began her journey with the Cleveland Clinic. She is known for growing the Cleveland Clinic's website visits from 230 million in 2020 to 1.2 billion currently. She has been awarded Content Marketer of the Year and is known to be a leader in the integration of AI in marketing. Unlike typical professionals, her career continued to progress year after year, due to her dedication to her craft and leadership skills. She now acts as the Cleveland Clinic's Enterprise Executive Director of Digital Marketing where she leads their marketing and digital strategy. She not only oversees the Cleveland Clinic's U.S. digital impact but also the U.K. digital impact.

During the interview she shared about her journey in social media, saying that she never imagined herself running the Cleveland Clinic's website, but she couldn't imagine herself in any other profession. She credits expanding the Cleveland Clinic's library as one of the most transformative projects she has ever worked on. Throughout the podcast she shared her knowledge of how to be successful in social media and the importance of learning from your mistakes, checking and double-checking grammar, attending events and learning how to network. She also shared her struggles in social media and marketing, from learning how to network, doing door to door sales and motivating herself to attend events when she had other obligations. Her experiences and stories are incredibly encouraging for any aspiring professional.

The podcast assignment taught me about how to talk to a social media professional and the importance of being respectful and professional. Researching and creating questions gave me insight on how to prepare for an interview and helped me expand my knowledge of social media and its importance. During the interview I was able to take away helpful and encouraging information such as, to keep asking 'what if', to learn from your mistakes and to put yourself out there even if you are scared. I am so grateful for the time Mrs. Todorovich took out of her day and all the knowledge and encouragement she shared.
