All About Pinterest
About
Pinterest is one of the best non-social social media platforms. The platform sees almost 600 million monthly active users worldwide. Often the platform is used to create mood boards, collages or vision boards. It is also perfect for searching for specific images or websites. Many users take content like blogs, newsletters, recipes or graphics, basically anything that can be linked, and make posts on Pinterest for other users to be able to save the content to their boards. Pinterest is ideal for improving SEO, as anything can be easily linked and shared on the platform. Commonly, you will see blogs posted on Pinterest.
Pinterest was originally co-founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp. They wanted to create a platform where users could collect and organize ideas. Within a few years, the platform took off, establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing websites in history.
Personal Experience
I used Pinterest in high school to save ideas for anything. I would save study tips, gift ideas or hair dye ideas. Now, I love using Pinterest when I am creating social media posts. I find it most helpful when looking for elements to include in my posts. For example, I search for backgrounds, images or inspiration for future posts. One of my favorite things to do is to make inspiration boards. I have a board for content ideas and multiple boards for color palettes.
Storefront
Many brands use Pinterest as a storefront. Because of how easy it is to share and save a post, many brands make posts for their products, allowing users to share the products on their own. The platform also makes it easy to link products to a larger storefront or company website, as well as search for similar products. Purchases are also more likely to occur organically on Pinterest than on any other platform because users on Pinterest are often searching for things.
One last note
Pinterest is a powerful search engine. A report by Adobe says that 39% of users use Pinterest as a search engine. It is amazing for inspiring ideas, creating content and advertising products. Many individuals use Pinterest every month, often searching for products, advice or new ideas. They are more likely to make a purchase from the platform, and the platform makes it easy for brands to promote their products. The platform also encourages users to circulate products organically by pinning them on their boards. From a brand perspective, Pinterest is a vital social media platform that can improve SEO and reach. On a personal level, the platform is perfect for brainstorming.

I did not know that people use Pinterest as a search engine. But after reading it, I think I'm also guilty of it. I was surprised learning in class that people use it for purchasing. As I used it like you; for mood boards and inspiration. I wonder how Pinterest marketing is different than other platforms in the aspect of knowing what's an ad, and what's not.
