Spring So Far
I am so thankful for the sunny weather lately. It finally feels like spring is here. These past few weekends have been spent outside, working in the yard with my parents. We began with clearing out all our flower beds, which was not the most fun part of the planting process. We had to clean out all the dead plants and leaves to make room for the new ones. We filled so many trash bags that we were exhausted at the end. Next, my mom and I went to multiple stores to find smaller flowers to put in her flowerpots and around the house.
While gardening, we had to go to the store multiple times
to get all the supplies that we needed. My mom is kind of a plant nerd, so we
had to get all kinds of things, like potting soil, topsoil and different types
of plant food. I am still not sure what we bought, but my mom tells me there is
a purpose for all of them. My dad even built her a little working station in our garage
where she can keep all her gardening supplies.
I have never had much of a green thumb; in fact, I am known
to kill plants if someone leaves for vacation and lets me take care of their
flowers. But I love being outside and hanging out with my parents, and they
love to garden. Typically, my idea of having a good time outside is a walk with
my dog, but my mom loves to plant flowers. This weekend, we mostly planted
things at my grandma’s house. My mom and grandma had previously gone to a
greenhouse to pick out flowers, and this weekend we dug holes and planted them
all.
We first dug up a few old plants that were beginning to die
and trimmed the current ones. Next, we planted the new plants in their place.
We had two white plants that needed a home and moved one of the current plants
to the other side of the yard. I was tasked with watering, fetching tools and
gathering trimmings to throw away.
It started to get late after that, so we decided to finish
for the day and check out the new growth of the plants that we had already
planted. So many things are starting to sprout and flower. It is super
exciting, and I cannot wait to see everything in full bloom.

Hey Aubrey! I also love to be outside especially with this great weather we have been having. I totally understand where you are coming from with always accidentally killing plants because I have been known to do the same thing. That sounds like so much fun though being able to spend time with your parents and maybe picking up an unexpected hobby. That picture of your dog is SO cute! Hopefully the weather can stay this nice and not go back to cold. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi Aubrey! I also have to help my mom when it comes to that time of year to start planting flowers. I don't always enjoy it, but it's a good way to spend time with family. I'm glad you found a way to make it an enjoyable experience.
ReplyDeleteHaving a green thumb has to be a special skill or something. My mom kills a lot of plants that she comes into ownership of. She will give it to me, and a week later it will come back brand new! The only special skill I have is hiding the receipt.
ReplyDeleteHey Aubrey! I also tend to kill my plants... I just threw away some flowers because I forgot to water them. Im glad you were able to spend time with your parents and garden!
